Town of Tillsonburg launches consultation on becoming a film-friendly community
Tillsonburg, Ontario — February 9, 2026 — The Town of Tillsonburg is launching a public consultation to evaluate the potential of becoming a film‑friendly community. The initiative seeks to strengthen local economic activity, attract visitors, and promote Tillsonburg’s unique character to film and television producers.
In October 2024, Town staff presented a draft Film Policy to Council. At that time, Council passed a resolution referring the draft policy back to staff for the completion of public consultation prior to further consideration. The consultation launching today is intended to gather that feedback and help shape a final policy proposal for Council’s review.
Ontario’s screen sector continues to generate significant economic activity across communities of all sizes. Film productions rely on local restaurants, accommodations, trades, and services; they also increase community visibility, encourage visitor interest, and contribute to economic diversification. By preparing a clear, film‑friendly framework, Tillsonburg aims to position itself to welcome appropriately scaled productions and support both residents and businesses.
“Tillsonburg has a great deal to offer the film industry, from our historic assets and scenic spaces to our supportive community and convenient location. Exploring opportunities to attract film and television productions could create new revenue streams for places like Annandale House and Lake Lisgar, while showcasing Tillsonburg to audiences far beyond our borders,” said Mayor Deb Gilvesy.
The Town’s Film‑Friendly Community Survey opens February 9, 2026, and will remain available until end of day March 13, 2026. The survey invites feedback on potential benefits and considerations, interest in participating (for example, as a property owner or business), and identification of potential filming locations, including residential, commercial, agricultural, and heritage properties.
The Town will also be hosting two public engagement opportunities. An in-person Open House on February 24, 2026, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Community Centre Lion’s Den. As well as a virtual information session on March 5, 2026, from 4:00–5:00 p.m.; The meeting link will be posted on tillsonburg.ca and shared on the Town’s social media channels closer to the meeting date.
Following the consultation period, Town staff will compile and analyze all feedback and a report regarding a draft Film Policy, including recommendations informed by public input, will be presented to Town Council for consideration.
Residents, property owners, and business operators are encouraged to participate in the consultation.
