Large Item Collection Program

The Large Item Collection Program in Tillsonburg will begin June 16 and run until July 4. The Town has been divided up into three collection zones.

Only items that weigh less than 45 kg (100 lbs) will be collected. Visit www.tillsonburg.ca/largeitem to learn more about how to prepare your eligible items and view a map to find out when collection will take place in your area.

 

Youth Advisory Committee

The Town is currently accepting applications to fill four (4) positions on the Youth Advisory Council. This committee advises and makes recommendations to Council on matters related to youth recreational and social issues in the community.

Applicants should be between the ages of 15 and 19, live in Tillsonburg and be interested in making a difference in their community. Appointed members will begin their term on the Youth Advisory Council in September 2025.The Youth Advisory Council meets once per month, in the evenings, from September to June (no meetings in July or August). Members are expected to attend and participate in all meetings. Committees play an important role in the municipal decision-making process and provide an opportunity for public engagement and participation.

Application deadline has been extended to May 20 (8:00 a.m.) at www.tillsonburg.ca/apply.

 

Potential Postal Disruption:
Sign up for paperless billing now

During a postal disruption, bills and invoices from the Town of Tillsonburg will continue to be issued, and payment due dates will remain unchanged. If you receive Town of Tillsonburg bills by mail, we encourage you to sign up for paperless billing. Doing so can help you avoid late fees and utility disruptions.

Remember, the next instalment of interim property taxes is due May 30. www.tillsonburg.ca/taxpayments

 

Watering Restrictions now in effect

Oxford County By-law No. 4193-2002 permits outdoor water use (by hose or attachment) every other day to ensure an adequate water supply for all residents (May 1 - September 30). Learn more at www.oxfordcounty.ca/waterconservation

 

Do It Right: Backyard Pools

Thinking about getting a pool? Owning a pool is terrific but it comes with responsibilities. By-law 4008 requires every outdoor swimming pool that is capable of holding water deeper than 24 inches or is greater than 22 sq. ft. to be enclosed by a fence. A permit for a swimming pool enclosure must be obtained before the pool is installed. Remember to investigate the cost of proper fencing/enclosure before purchasing any pool­—including softsided and inflatable models. Learn more at www.tillsonburg.ca/pools.

Junior Lifeguard Club

Our rookie lifeguards will enjoy an action-packed program that will help them prepare for that day when they become a certified lifeguard. Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside qualified lifeguards and learn what it’s like to work in Aquatics, developing lifesaving skills and swimming fundamentals. Open to youth who have completed Swimmer 3 or have an equivalent skill level.

VIBE Youth Drop-In Program

VIBE, a youth drop-in program for ages 14-18, runs Thursdays, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the library (2 Library Lane). There will be a mix of free time and optional structured programs every week. Plus FREE snacks/meals! Funding for VIBE has been generously provided by Oxford Community Foundation, in partnership with the Town of Tillsonburg.

 High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development

The Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) training program equips front-line leaders (anyone working with children ages 4 to 12 years) with the tools to quickly enhance the quality of their programs. The training provides valuable resources, and techniques to ensure each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs are met. Age 13+
