Tillsonburg will attend AMO Conference in Ottawa
The Town of Tillsonburg will attend the upcoming Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa, August 18-21.
Deputy Mayor Dave Beres, Councillor Kelly Spencer and CAO Kyle Pratt will represent Tillsonburg at the event, which features three days of networking, concurrent sessions and plenary sessions. The conference begins Sunday, August 18 and concludes on Wednesday, August 21.
Delegation meetings with cabinet ministers are a key feature of the AMO Conference experience. These meetings are a unique opportunity for Tillsonburg to engage with senior Ontario government officials on matters facing the municipality.
“This event is an opportunity to discuss Tillsonburg’s needs and seek provincial support on those topics,” says Deputy Mayor Beres. “It’s a rare chance to sit down face to face and talk about our specific needs.”
“Tillsonburg is a growing community and that’s certainly creating some challenges for us at the municipal level—whether it’s housing, healthcare or transit,” says CAO Kyle Pratt. “We welcome the opportunity to dialogue with our municipal peers and share our concerns with provincial leadership.”
While in Ottawa, the Tillsonburg delegation will meet with representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure regarding asset management requirements and funding options for Kinsmen Pedestrian Bridge.
The group will also meet with representatives from the Ministry of Health regarding measures to ease physician shortages, including support and funding for Nurse Practitioner-Led clinics.
The group also plans to advocate for 911 service enhancements, transit and modernization funding.
Through AMO, Ontario’s 444 municipalities work together to achieve shared goals and meet common challenges. Through policy development, cost-saving programs, conferences and training opportunities, AMO provides municipal officials with tools to succeed, and programs to help maximize taxpayer dollars.
