Code of Conduct

The Municipal Act, 2001, requires municipalities to establish a Code of Conduct for members of municipal council, local boards and committees. The policy shall include a formal complaint and investigation process.

Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct serves to enhance public trust and improve the quality of public administration and governance by encouraging high standards of conduct on the part of all government officials. The policy also ensures that those members share a common standard of integrity through adherence to its principles.

Submit a Complaint

Should a complaint be received regarding a member of Council, a formal investigation will be undertaken.

If it has been determined that a breach of the Code of Conduct has occurred, staff shall provide a report and recommendations to Council.

Recommendations may include the imposition of a penalty in accordance with subsection 223.4(5) of the Municipal Act, 2001, which may result in a reprimand or a suspension of the remuneration paid to the Member of Council for a period of up to 90 days.

The Complaint form below must be completed to submit a complaint. A complaint can also be made in person to the Customer Service Centre, 10 Lisgar Avenue, Tillsonburg.
